Douglas “Darrell” Massie Jr., 84, of Petrolia, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Petrolia, Texas with Rev. Aaron Lindsey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Petrolia Cemetery in Petrolia, Texas under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta, Texas.
Mr. Massie was born on September 13, 1928 in the Stanfield community in Clay County, Texas to Douglas Darrell and Eugina Armps (Blevins) Massie Sr. He attended and graduated from Petrolia ISD. Mr. Massie then attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a graduate of the U.S. Navy Post Graduate School in Monterrey, California and the Professional Military Comptroller School in Montgomery, Alabama, and of the Comptroller Staff Officers School in Wichita Falls, Texas. On August 9, 1946 he and Annis Gibson were married in Petrolia, Texas. Mr. Massie was associated with the U.S. Air Force a total of forty-five years, serving both as an airman and as a civilian. At the time of his retirement in 1997, he was a senior training administrator for Sheppard Air Force Base. He was also involved in ranching and oil production in Clay County. Mr. Massie was a member of the Petrolia First Baptist Church, the Clay County Historical Society and the Petrolia Masonic Lodge, where he was the worshipful master. Through the years he served as the President of the Petrolia PTA and as President of the Ex-Student Association. He was a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers. From 1969-1971 he served as a member of the Nine-Man Board for the Clay County Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo. He served as chairman of the Nine-Man Board in 1971. Mr. Massie served as the President for the seventieth Clay County Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo and for many years served as the Parade Marshall for the Clay County Pioneer Association.
Mr. Massie was preceded in death by his parents Douglas Darrell and Eugina Armps (Blevins) Massie Sr.; wife Ann Massie; one brother Richard V. Massie; one brother-in-law Jack Caddell.
Survivors include his son Darrell “Darrie” Massie and wife Tanya of Petrolia, Texas; one grandson, Trey Massie and wife Jennifer of Petrolia, Texas; one granddaughter, Tara Neal and husband Scott of Windthorst, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Kamdyn and McKenna Neal of Windthorst, Texas; one brother, Don Massie and wife Jean of Wichita Falls, Texas; three sister-in-laws, Jeanette Caddell of Dallas, Texas, Varue Starnes and husband Billy of Lakeside City, Texas and LaMarylis Fore and husband Sonny of Gainsville, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home on Friday evening February 22, 2013 from 6:30PM-7:30PM.
